Borg Warner Non World Class T-5 FS5R90A Transmission

The 1983 Datsun 280ZX Turbo used the Borg Warner T-5 Manual transmission, the FS5R90A

The T-5 was originally designed by BorgWarner based on the T-4 and earlier SR4 transmissions, and was sold (1a)
as the BorgWarner T-5 until the design was sold to TTC (aka Tremec) in the late 1990s.

The T-5 is a T4 with an added overdrive gear.(1b) The T-5 carries a part number of 1352-000-xxx, where xxx
is a three-digit application-specific number ranging from 001 to 260 that also can be used to distinguish
World Class from Standard T-5 transmissions. (1c): Tables 3-1 & 4-1

The increased horsepower of the new 2.8L Turbo motor, from 132 HP to 197 HP, required a beefier transmission. (2)

The Borg Warner Non World Class transmission was designed to fit many car makes and models, by using a
different bell housing. Most images leave the bell housing out.

The 280ZX Turbo model, L28ET, is designated as follows: L28 = 2.8L | E= Electronic Fuel Injection | T= Turbo
